Terms of service
Last updated: 19 April 2026
The agreement
These terms form a legal agreement between you and CheckTheQuote when you create an account or use the service. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
What CheckTheQuote does
CheckTheQuote analyses UK builder's quotes by comparing line items against published UK construction pricing benchmarks and by running checks on the contractor using public UK company records. The output is an informational report, intended to help you make a better-informed decision.
Not professional advice
CheckTheQuote does not provide surveying, legal, financial or construction advice. Our analysis is an opinion generated from public data and pricing references; it may contain errors or omissions. You should not rely on it as the sole basis for any contract, payment or financial decision. Always verify important figures with a qualified professional.
Accounts
You must provide a valid email address and keep your password secret. You are responsible for activity on your account. Let us know immediately if you believe someone else has accessed it.
Payments and refunds
The first analysis per account is free. A one-time £19 “Project” unlock gives you unlimited re-analyses for a single renovation project. Payments are processed by Stripe in GBP and include VAT where applicable.
Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, by starting to use the service immediately after purchase you agree that the service has been delivered and the 14-day cooling-off period does not apply. If the service is materially broken or misrepresented, contact us and we will issue a refund.
Acceptable use
- Use the service for your own personal renovation research or for quotes you are directly involved in.
- Do not submit quotes you are not authorised to share, and do not include other people's personal data beyond what is on the quote itself.
- Do not abuse the service: no scraping, automated submissions, reverse engineering, or attempts to bypass rate limits.
- Do not use the service to harass, defame, or make false allegations about any contractor. Our contractor check simply reports public company-record data.
Intellectual property
The CheckTheQuote name, site design, pricing logic and generated reports are our intellectual property. You keep ownership of any quote text you submit; by using the service, you grant us a licence to process that text to produce your analysis and to use aggregated, de-identified pricing data to improve the service.
Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, CheckTheQuote is not liable for indirect, consequential or incidental losses, or for business losses, lost profits, or loss of data. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law. Where liability is capped, it is capped at the amount you paid us in the previous twelve months.
Termination
You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms. On termination your analyses will be deleted in line with our privacy policy.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be flagged on the site and, where appropriate, emailed to you in advance.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of England and Wales.
